This steel works was opened by Redpath, Brown & Co Ltd in 1920/1, manufacturing structural steel for a variety of purposes including buildings, shipbuilders, collieries and bridges,
The works was served by sidings making a trailing connection to the southbound line of the Glasgow Central Railway's Carmyle Junction to Western Junction to Newton line.
The firm was bought by Bolckow, Vaughan & Co who were taken over by Dorman Long & Co Ltd in 1929. Under Dorman Long the works produced structures for bridges. In the Second World War the company produced landing craft using the southern part of the former Meadowside Shipbuilding Yard site for assembly and after the war was involved in the rebuilding programme including the Houses of Parliament.
In 1967 it became owned by British Steel Corporation.
Until 1983 the works was served by a daily train service from Carmyle. In 1983 the line from Carmyle Junction over the Westburn Viaduct to the works closed. It remained served by a single track line from Newton until 1989. Offices closed in 1990.
