Also known as Woodleys Junction. This was the junction between the 1826 Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway and a 1848 spur from Middlemuir Junction on the [[Campsie Branch (Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway). The lines meeting here were single track. Originally the line from Middlemuir Junction was double, dropping to single immediately before the junction.
The junction allowed through running for trains from Lanarkshire to the Campsie branch. Its main use was probably to allow trains from Kirkintilloch Basin to reverse here and run on to Kirkintilloch [2nd] station's goods yard. A reversing siding (Woodley Lye), approached from the north, on the east side of the line was added to facilitate this.
The signal box, on the west side of the line, was opened as Woodilee Junction in 1893.
The signal box closed in 1958. The reversing spur was removed prior to this. The line to Bridgend Junction closed in 1959. Woodley Junction remained as a reversing spur until 1966. This closure was days before closure of the Campsie Branch (Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway).
The trackbed here is now a footpath, the paths preserving the former lines.
See Alex Graham's article, a description of the line as it was, Memories of railways around Lenzie 1938 to 1942.
