The identity of the guard on the Mallard when it set the speed record for a steam train has finally been discovered 75 years after the event. Goods guard Henry Croucher was pictured alongside the rest of the train crew in a number of photographs taken at the time. His identity remained a mystery until his daughter contacted the National Railway Museum in York. [From Richard Buckby]
