East-West rail link: Bedford, St Neots and Cambourne in plan [BBC News]

Date: 30/01/2020

The preferred route has been announced as part of the third and final stage of the East-West rail link. East West Rail Company (EWRC) hopes the route between Bedford and Cambridge will go via St Neots and Cambourne. If it is backed by the government two stations, one for Tempsford or St Neots and one for Cambourne, would be built as part of the plan.

Having found what may be the world's shortest standard gauge railway [see image 30642] we now have what could be the record for double track (look at the far end of the platforms, before the new factory building). This station on the Bedford - Cambridge line (whose name comes from its location adjacent to the former A1 road) is very well preserved - there is the main station building, a signal cabin, and a goods shed beyond - but, sadly, it will never see trains again.
