With the power station it served now a memory the short Cockenzie branch is returning to nature. There is still a physical connection with the main line (across the road behind me) at Prestonpans loop, but the branch itself is not just gated but fenced off. The semaphore signal remained right up to the end, long the only one in the area. For the same view in busier times see image [[28116]].

The coal discharge shed here, south of the power station, was rather prominent on its embankment until it was demolished in 2017 a couple of years after the power station itself. The branch continued climbing sharply to the buffers (to the right). That spot would make a commanding viewpoint - if the whole embankment weren't fenced off. The yellow sign reads 'Power Station Coal Plant'.
