John Anderson (1830 - 1011) was the assistant to the General Manager of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway before taking the position of secretary and manager of the Callander and Oban Railway in 1865. He promoted the line, sold shares, encouraged hoteliers, coach companies, steamers owners and fishermen to work with the line while simultaneously dealing with board members, land owners, contractors and opposing railway companies. Arguably the railway would not have opened without him.
The C&O line extended from Callander (Dreadnought) to Killin [1st] in 1870, Tyndrum [1st] in 1873, Dalmally in 1877, Oban in 1880 and Ballachulish in 1903.
