Description

Walter Francis Montagu Douglas Scott (1806 - 1884) was, from 1819, the 5th Duke of Buccleuch and 7th Duke of Queensberry. Seat at Dalkeith Palace.

1837 Begins work on Granton Harbour.

1839 The Dalkeith branch of the Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway connected with the duke's Duke of Buccleuch's Tramway serving collieries at Smeaton (Smeaton Colliery) and Cowden (Cowdenfoot Colliery).

1857 The Granton Branch (Caledonian Railway) authorised, jointly owned by the duke and the Caledonian Railway.

1863 The Caledonian Railway buys the duke's share of the Granton Branch (Caledonian Railway).
