The station closed with the Waverley Route on 6th January 1969. Just over three months before this excursion, the first 30 miles of the old line south from Edinburgh were reopened on 6th September 2015 with a new station, called simply Eskbank, on a site south of this original. Thirty miles of the old Waverley Route had reopened just over three months earlier on 6th September 2015, On the right is the former 1847 station building, boarded-up and derelict. The train is travelling behind 66003 and left London at 5.35 a.m. on a freezing cold morning. Sadly, the building has not been revived for railway use. At the south end of this station, on the right in the distance across the intervening road, is the bus station labelled as Galashiels Interchange and offering onward transportation to now railway-less towns like Peebles, Selkirk, Melrose and Hawick.
