The Borders Railway is a 2015 re-opening of the Edinburgh and Hawick Railway (North British Railway) which closed in 1969. The route is near identical except the Millerhill Deviation (Network Rail) between Newcraighall and Sherrifhall and short Galashiels Deviation (Network Rail). Many properties built on the trackbed post closure were compulsorily purchased and demolished and many bridges required replacement or substantial renovation.
The line is supported and promoted by the Borders Railway Community Rail Partnership .
