This is 710269 arriving at Upper Holloway station, the first stop in its journey from Gospel Oak in north London through east London to Barking in Essex, on the afternoon of Tuesday, 28th May 2019. The guy on the westbound platform on the left is totally unimpressed, being another one of those individuals sadly lost to the world of those mobile phone contraptions. 2/27

28/05/2019
David Bosher

Upper Holloway

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

Brand new Aventra Class 710262 with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Barking to Gospel Oak arriving at its penultimate stop at Upper Holloway station, on 30th May 2019. 3/27

30/05/2019
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

Brand new Aventra Class 710261 with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to Barking at Crouch Hill station, on 30th May 2019. 4/27

30/05/2019
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

710262 with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to Barking arriving at Crouch Hill station, on the afternoon of Friday, 9th August 2019. 5/27

09/08/2019
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

710262, with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to Barking, just departed from Crouch Hill station on the afternoon of Friday, 9th August 2019. 6/27

09/08/2019
David Bosher

Gospel Oak

Hampstead Junction Railway (London and North Western Railway)

710266 heading away from the camera departing from Gospel Oak with the 14.50 London Overground GOBLIN service to Barking, on the afternoon of Friday, 9th August 2019. 7/27

09/08/2019
David Bosher

Harringay Green Lanes

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

Brand new Aventra 710262 with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to Barking arriving at Harringay Green Lanes station, in pouring rain, on 12th August 2019. This is the former Tottenham & Hampstead Junction Railway of 1868 but the station here, a wooden structure, did not open until 1st June 1880 as Green Lanes. It was renamed Harringay Park, Green Lanes in 1883 and further renamed simply Harringay Park in 1951. On 27th October 1958 - my 7th birthday, you can do the maths! - it became Harringay Stadium. The wooden platforms and shelters were replaced by concrete structures around the same time with extra long platforms to cater for visitors to the stadium but these were shortened in 2003 due to subsidence and the shelters were also replaced by structures offering less protection from the elements. After the stadium was demolished in 1990 the station was further renamed Harringay East, notwithstanding that it is more south than east of Harringay. This misnomer, however, was swept away a little over a year later on 8th July 1991 when the station became Harringay Green Lanes, almost the name it started out with in 1880. 8/27

12/08/2019
David Bosher

Blackhorse Road

Tottenham and Forest Gate Railway

710262 with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to Barking departing from the 1981 station at Blackhorse Road and about to pass the site of the 1894 station, beyond the bridge with a DW type bus crossing, in pouring rain on 12th August 2019. Since the station's re-siting in 1981 giving it a direct connection with the LUL Victoria Line, Blackhorse Road is now the busiest intermediate station on the GOBLIN line. 9/27

12/08/2019
David Bosher

Bushey

New Lines (London and North Western Railway)

710263, with a Watford Junction to Euston Overground service, calling at the ex-LNWR 'New Lines' station at Bushey on 18th December 2019. To enable these lines to serve the town centre at Watford High Street, they were diverted away from the main line at Bushey through new sharply-curved platforms and then onto a lofty curved viaduct to a junction with the Rickmansworth line, south of High Street station, with trains utilising the Rickmansworth branch back to the main line at Watford Junction. Passenger trains to Rickmansworth ceased in 1952 (and over its offshoot branch to Croxley Green in 1996), thus today one section of the Watford & Rickmansworth line is still served while the rest has been completely abandoned. Bakerloo Line tube trains also once came this way to Watford Junction but became peak hours only north of Queen's Park in June 1965. These ceased altogether in 1982 but a full day service of Bakerloo trains as far as Harrow & Wealdstone only was restored in 1984. 10/27

18/12/2019
David Bosher

Bushey

New Lines (London and North Western Railway)

710 258, running third rail, with a London Overground service from Euston to Watford Junction, arriving at Bushey on 18th December 2019. Most people still remember this station under its former name of Bushey & Oxhey but which fell foul of the old B.R. regime's mania for shortening station names with an '&' in them, in the 1970s. As at the date of this photo, a few class 378 units still run on this route for the time being and, of course, remain the mainstay of the main LO routes from Stratford to Richmond or Clapham Junction. 11/27

18/12/2019
David Bosher

Watford High Street

Watford and Rickmansworth Railway

710257, with a London Overground service from Euston to Watford Junction, departing from its penultimate stop at Watford High Street on 18th December 2019. Until 1982, LUL Bakerloo Line trains also ran through here to and from Watford Junction too and still do further down the line but now start and terminate at Harrow & Wealdstone. The Bakerloo always seems to wind up with the Underground's oldest trains; in 1982 they were all 1938 stock and now in 2022 is worked with 1972 stock. 12/27

18/12/2019
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

Brand new 710 269 departing from Crouch Hill station with a truncated London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to South Tottenham, on 3rd February 2020. Services are currently suspended between South Tottenham and Barking due to a freight train derailment between Walthamstow Queens Road and Leyton Midland Road stations that occurred at 6 a.m. on 23rd January 2020, which damaged two and a half miles of track. Network Rail has established that 39 new pieces of rail, each 126 metres long, will need to be installed along the affected section along with the replacement of 5,300 concrete sleepers, 900 wooden sleepers and 10,000 tonnes of ballast. Services are not expected to resume for several weeks; a replacement bus service is in operation between Walthamstow Central station (not actually on the GOBLIN) and Barking. Passengers between Walthamstow and South Tottenham have been advised to use the LUL Victoria Line between Walthamstow Central and Seven Sisters (close to South Tottenham) and which serves Blackhorse Road, another of the GOBLIN stations without a service at the moment. 13/27

03/02/2020
David Bosher

Kensal Green

New Lines (London and North Western Railway)

710 259, working third rail, calling at Kensal Green with a London Overground service from Euston to Watford Junction, on 4th January 2020. This station is also served by Bakerloo Line trains from Elephant & Castle to Harrow & Wealdstone. Although the electrified DC New Lines had opened in 1912, this station did not open until 1916 and is not to be confused with Kensal Rise, on the London Overground overhead electric route from Stratford to Richmond/Clapham Junction, that was originally known as Kensal Green between its opening in 1873 until renamed in 1890. 14/27

04/01/2020
David Bosher

Kilburn High Road

New Lines (London and North Western Railway)

710259, working third rail, arriving at Kilburn High Road station with a London Overground service from Euston to Watford Junction, on 4th January 2020. This station was opened by the L&NWR as Kilburn & Maida Vale in 1852 and these are actually the platforms formerly on the down slow main lines. When the DC electrified 'New Lines' opened in 1912, there was insufficient room on the north side for new platforms so the slow lines were moved to what had been the fast lines with new tracks for fast trains constructed further south. The station was renamed Kilburn High Road in 1923 and the remains of the main line platforms were swept away during the electrification of the WCML in the early 1960s. 15/27

04/01/2020
David Bosher

Wanstead Park

Tottenham and Forest Gate Railway

Freightliner 66540, heading east through Wanstead Park, as Bombardier Aventra 710265 arrives with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Barking to Gospel Oak, on 6th October 2020. 16/27

06/10/2020
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

710269, with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to Barking, calling at Crouch Hill station on 1st December 2020. I remember this station as a youth in the 1960s when it still had its original serrated wooden canopies, swept away in the 1970s and replaced with ghastly bus stop style waiting shelters with no regard for architectural merit and none whatsoever for passenger comfort. The shelters seen now replaced those that replaced the canopies. Similar canopies existed at Leyton Midland Road and Walthamstow (renamed Walthamstow Queen's Road in 1968) while those at Blackhorse Road were removed long before the station was re-sited in 1981 to provide better interchange with the LUL Victoria Line. 710267 heads away from the camera as it departs for Barking. 19/27

08/07/2021
David Bosher

Barking Riverside

Barking Riverside Branch (London Overground)

710256 about to depart from the new London Overground GOBLIN terminus at Barking Riverside with the 12.03 service to Gospel Oak, on Friday, 22nd July 2022 which thankfully was nowhere near as hot as the stultifying 40.6C heatwave that wrecked the station's Grand Opening four days earlier.
