Middlesbrough Branch (Stockton and Darlington Railway)

Introduction

This branch extended the Stockton and Darlington Railway from Stockton to deeper water and larger dock facilities at Middlesbrough. Old Newport Yard was the eastern end of the electrified route from Shildon Yard. The original course of the line was replaced with an alignment to the south when Tees Marshalling Yard opened, the southern alignment being followed by passenger services. The original course became a goods line. Middlesbrough station it at the east end, built on a new alignment opened as part of the Middlesbrough and Redcar Railway.
