Monkton and Annbank Branch (Glasgow and South Western Railway)

Introduction

This line not only provided a shortcut for trains heading north from the Ayr and Mauchline Line (Glasgow and South Western Railway) but also served the Glenburn coalmine at Prestwick.

Monkton to Mossblown

This junction was between Prestwick (to the south) and Monkton (to the north) stations. It is today the site of Prestwick International Airport station.

This colliery was opened mid way along the Monkton and Annbank Branch (Glasgow and South Western Railway), on the south side of the line, in 1911. It was near Troon and generally known as Glenburn. The area workshops were located here.

This junction was west of Annbank station. It opened in 1892 with a new line which ran north west to Monkton Junction near Prestwick.
