Peel Glen Waggonway (Merry and Cunningham)

Introduction

This mineral line was owned by Merry and Cunningham, of the Glengarnock Iron Works. The line ran north from the Glasgow, Dumbarton and Helensburgh Railway between Drumry and Drumchapel to Peel Glen, Garscadden Wood and Hutcheson Hill to serve ironstone and coal pits.

This was an ironstone and coal pit south of Hutcheson Hill in the north of Drumchapel.

This colliery opened around 1866. It worked coal and ironstone and was owned by Merry and Cunningham. It consisted of at least three pits to the west of Garscadden Wood in the north of modern day Drumchapel. The pits were rail served. Pits were on either side of Peel Glen Road.
