Solway Junction

A Glasgow - Newcastle service runs east along the single line section towards Gretna shortly after leaving Annan on 21 May 2008 alongside recently laid track that will eventually form the new up line. The train has just passed the site of Solway Junction and is about to pass the bridge that once carried the Solway Junction Railway from Annan Shawhill south to the Solway Viaduct. Nowadays the bridge is spanned by a waste-water pipeline linking the decommissioned nuclear power station at Chapelcross with the Solway Firth.
