A class 50 hauls an inspection saloon north through Preston station in 1974. Behind the train is the former L&Y Butler Street Goods Yard which by this time had the tracks removed, although the buildings were yet to be demolished. This area is now occupied by car parks serving both the station and the Fishergate Centre. The capacity of the current station car park (immediately behind the coach) is to be increased during 2008/2009 by the addition of a two storey parking facility in order to accommodate more of the stations customers.
