That ramp looks treacherous. A clear but cold day at Holcombe Brook terminus shows the small station building, at the top of a steep ramp, sitting at right angles to the track and behind, on Holcombe Hill, the 128 feet high Peel Tower. This was built in memory of Sir Robert Peel, founder of the Metropolitan Police, who was a son of Bury. Opened in 1852 the tower is still a local landmark.
