Backworth Colliery
The Backworth shunter uses his pole to hitch a ride as the 0-6-0ST propels hoppers round the 'new curve'. For obvious reasons this practice was officially frowned upon even in less safety conscious days. I remember this man could have doubled for the actor Talfryn Thomas (Mr. Cheeseman in Dad's Army) although I'm sure his accent would have been completely different.
