Tongland Viaduct

Riverside path alongside the Dee at Tongland, north of Kirkcudbright, in August 2009, with the remains of Tongland railway viaduct standing on the east bank of the river. The arches of the western approach to the viaduct now form the border of a private garden on the opposite shore. Note some of the rubble from the long demolished deck and piers of the old structure dumped in the field beyond the right hand arch. The Kirkcudbright branch closed in 1965.
