D6103, one of the ill-fated NBL Type 2s, pulls into the old Fort William station c 1968. The NBLs had only a short spell on the West Highland and Oban lines, replacing the BRCW Type 2s which had superceded steam in the early 60s. The notorious unreliability of the NBL locos soon led to the return of the BRCW Type 2s, which continued to dominate West Highland and Oban line operations until the arrival of the Class 37s in the late 1970s.
