Map

An extract from a map accompanying an 1895 guidebook 'Walks Near
Edinburgh'. What is now western Edinburgh was still largely Midlothian countryside, with the village of Corstorphine the only proper settlement. The Corstorphine branch was yet to be built and the station called Corstorphine was later to become Saughton, then close in 1920. To the north Cramond Brig and Barnton Gate stations were to become Barnton and Davidson's Mains respectively and close in 1951. With one or two exceptions the farm names live on as suburbs or names of housing estates.
