A phantom of the small hours, the Class 31 hauled 03.20 newspaper train from Liverpool Street to Clacton is seen at a little after 5 a.m. flitting alongside the River Colne between Colchester and Wivenhoe. Waiting at various stations ahead are the vans and cars of newsagents keen to get the newspapers in their shops and on breakfast tables throughout the Tendring peninsula. That day, June 21st 1984, the miners' strike was grabbing the headlines.
