BR Sulzer Type 2 No. 25139 brings a train of empty ICI bogie limestone hoppers bound for the quarry at Tunstead up through
the deep cutting at Buxworth, between New Mills South Junction and Chinley station. There had originally been a tunnel here
but this was opened out in 1901/02 to permit the provision of
quadruple track between New Mills South and Chinley North Junctions. The former slow lines to the right had survived into the 1970s and appear to have been been only recently lifted by June 1977.
