Lancaster Quay

Scene on the Glasson Dock branch, probably in the 1950s. The Black 5 appears to have dropped down from Lancaster Castle station to assist the 4F and its train of wagons back up the steep bank to the main line. At this point there was a long loop alongside the single track of the branch proper. The freight will have come from the Quayside sidings rather than Glasson itself which only saw occasional very lightly loaded trains. See image 30071 for a close up of the distant bridge.
