Samnan
A view of the new alignment and the North portal (right background) of the new cut and cover tunnel under Gamla Uppsala. The railway alignment has partly taken over the previous highway alignment. This in turn was, a thousand years ago, what now appears to have been a pagan ceremonial colonade in the vicinity of the infamous Uppsala pagan temple site. The new double track railway, which takes trains away from the historic area and eliminates 3 level crossings, is due to open in autumn 2017.
