Grangemouth No 3 Signal Box

Grangemouth Yard as viewed from the west end, probably from the footbridge adjacent to Dock Road level crossing. In 1971 the yard was only a shadow of it's former self, albeit there is evidence of cement, oil and coal traffic (in 16T mineral wagons) still being handled. This was the afternoon of an Edinburgh University Railway Society brake van trip from Grangemouth to Bandeath, for which the motive power was expected to by an NBL Type 2 - it was a bit of a disappointment that a BR Sulzer Type 2 No. D5009 (transferred earlier in the year from the Stoke Division to Eastfield) was provided. Of course only a few years later, a trip behind a by then class 24 would also be much sought after!
