Removal of vegetation in (non-railway) groundworks immediately to the southwest of Ladybank station has revealed this struture in all its modest glory. It was formerly in the 'V' of the junction with the Kinross line. This trailing junction was some distance south of the station, so I am guessing that trains were propelled out of the bay platform and were hauled to Kinross once clear of the points.
