Just west of Gainford village there are two arched stone bridges crossing the upper reaches of the River Tees, in close proximity to each other as it winds it way to the east coast. These are on the former line between Darlngton and Barnard Castle. The easternmost bridge is Gainford Bridge with the westernmost one being West Tees Bridge. This view looking south east looks across the deck of the fenced off West Tees Bridge. The Tees Way footpath runs along the top of the rail embankment from the A67 road, almost to the bridge, before steps descend down to the river bank for the path to continue west alongside the river.
