National Railway Museum [York]

Former Southern Railway 25.5 ton twin-bogie brake van no 56297, built at Ashford Works in 1936 and photographed in the yard of the National Railway Museum at York in June 2013. Known as 'Queen Marys', the original vans were mounted on the chassis of redundant electric stock and were fitted with an extended cabin (still significantly shorter than the underframe). They were designed for use on high speed freight operations.
