Although the two mile Whittingham Hospital Railway was a lightly laid single track branch, a wide strip of land was purchased from various landowners and is still clearly defined for much of its route by the original iron rail fencing. The line was open from 1887 to 1957. This view looks towards the Savick Brook bridge, on the way to the hospital, at Dixons Farm near Grimsargh in August 2021. The gate across the solum is a recent development, and part of the excavation for a pipeline currently being laid that cuts across the old line in two places.
