An exceptional visitor to Carlisle Kingmoor on 14th October 1967 was the recently preserved GWR Castle 4-6-0 7029 'Clun Castle'. The LCGB had sponsored a 'Castle to Carlisle' special from Liverpool, with 7029 working the Preston to Carlisle and Carlisle to Hellifield stages, and I think that was the first occasion on which a Castle had been seen on Shap. 7029 had however reached Carlisle once previously, albeit over Ais Gill.
