Barnhill: Barnhill (Glasgow) station and Sighthill Yard Box.
Carlisle Kingmoor MPD: An exceptional visitor to Carlisle Kingmoor on 14th October 1967 was the recently preserved GWR Castle 4-6-0 7029 'Clun Castle'. The LCGB had sponsored a 'Castle to Carlisle' special from Liverpool, with 7029 working the Preston to Carlisle and Carlisle to Hellifield stages, and I think that was the first occasion on which a Castle had been seen on Shap. 7029 had however reached Carlisle once previously, albeit over Ais Gill.
Scout Green: A wild and wet morning on the fells, as Castle 4-6-0 7029 'Clun Castle' climbs past Scout Green with the 'Castle to Carlisle' railtour of 14th October 1967.

Witham: The line from Witham to Maldon East closed in 1966, but a short stub at the Witham end continued in business discretely up until the 1980s. This stub served the former Rom River Reinforcement factory at Witham, allowing the delivery of occasional wagons of bundled reinforcing rods. The wagons were propelled on to the start of the branch from the main line, then drawn up to the unloading gantry by this diminutive Planet locomotive. This 1978 view is towards Maldon - the original branch line is on the right and ended in buffer stops a hundred yards or so further on.
Longmorn Distillery: After closure of the main line, Longmorn Distillery, seen here in October 1978, adopted some of the former goods yard along with its internal rail network for movement of materials within the complex, powered by a Ruston Hornsby 48hp diesel shunter. On abandonment of the system, all track, wagons and locomotive, together with the station footbridge, were donated to the Strathspey Railway. See image [[27382]] North end of the station (out of sight to left) with lifted goods yard on left.

Glasgow Central: A previous generation of passenger display technology at Glasgow Central in October 1997. This national system restricted station names to 10 characters. That's not too bad here so long as you know that P' is Pollok. A little less elegant was ARDR'N HBR. It's probably best that I never found out what it made of Alfreton & Mansfield Parkway.
Millerhill Marshalling Yard [North]: Some serious mist and rain over Millerhill on a bleak October morning in 2000 as EWS 66049 takes coal empties north out of the yard towards Niddrie South Junction. Wolverton: A class 350 EMU for Birmingham New Street pulls into Wolverton station in bright sunshine on 14 October. The blue fence to the left surrounds a site for a new station building - ironically situated on the bay platform for Newport Pagnell branch trains. This still had track until at least the mid 1980s, being used to store engineering equipment, such as generator wagons, if I recall correctly. An inspection of the train indicator shows the wisdom of catching this train - it's a 56-minute wait until the next one, then a four-minute wait. Not quite an interval service.
Wolverton: A northbound Voyager about to run non-stop through Wolverton station in October 2011. Notice the curvature of the track - the whole WCML was slewed around Wolverton works when it was built. Note also the rise in the platform level - unconventionally, the highest part is at the end!
Wolverton: A section of the original 1838 London and Birmingham Railway, looking north through Wolverton works. It was later bypassed by the 1881 LNWR route and is now ignominiously sandwiched between an approach road to Tesco and industrial units housed in former Works buildings. How long it has been here and how it was transported here are not known. At one time there were many coaches reused in this way on the farms in the north-east but since an earlier visit to the area some 35 years ago the numbers have reduced considerably.

This final section to Shelley also included the 511 yards long Shelley Woodhouse tunnel.
Clydebank: A Class 320 from Dalmuir makes its first stop at Clydebank on the morning of Saturday 14th October 2017. Engineering works mean that it will be terminating at Kirkwood instead of Whifflet.
Woodacre Crossing: Having been delayed by Storm Callum line closures a special path was created for this intermodal service from Carlisle to Daventry. Shiny DB 66130 hurries south through Woodacre on the afternoon of Sunday 14th October 2018.
Donibristle Platform: 66743 coasts down Donibristle bank with the 'Royal Scotsman' from Dundee to Edinburgh on 14 October 2018.
Morningside Road: A bridge over the south sub in Morningside actually on Braid Avenue. This bridge name preserved for about a hundred years the name of a farm which once stood here; then in 1985 part of Cluny Terrace was renamed Egypt Mews. The Jordan Burn runs alongside the railway through this area with the lands to the north being Canaan now represented by Canaan lane see image [[54037]].
Lancaster Old Junction: Recent cutting back of trees on the bank to the south of Lancaster has opened up the previously inaccessible site of Lancaster Old Junction. In this view, looking north, the original line to the old Penny Street station diverged right, and remained open until 1967 for goods traffic. A small engine shed was also sited in the cleared area until 1934. Pendolino 390046 swings round the curve from Castle station to pass the site with an Edinburgh to Euston service on 14th October 2019.
Kings Cross: Four types of long distance passenger train visible at Kings Cross in October 2019.
Boreland Road Bridge: Looking south to the Boreland Road bridge, over the trackbed of the Halbeath Railway, on 14 October. The span to the right is over the Keithing Burn while the main line is crossed by a newer structure beyond.
Lancaster Old Junction: 195115, working from Manchester Airport to Barrow, drops down the bank at Lancaster passing the site of Lancaster Old Junction on 14th October 2019. This view has only recently been made possible with the removal of numerous trees in the cutting that presumably had the potential to cause adhesion problems on the climb out of Lancaster.
Fetteresso Viaduct: A bit more light would have been nice at 07:14. A rake of 5 new carriages crosses the Fettersso Viaduct just south of Stonehaven station (seen distant right).
Kintore: An aerial view of Kintore station taken the day before re-opening.
Low Marishes: Looking at the roadside frontage of the former crossing keepers cottages at Low Marishes, with the trackbed to right of view. Note the arched chimney stack that would have served the single open fire in each cottage. I am advised that this style of chimney is on other extant keepers cottages around the York area.
Low Marishes: The former Low Marishes crossing keepers' bungalow, seen across the trackbed, sits on the north side of the local road running to Yedingham from the A169 Malton to Pickering road. It is L shaped to create two workers' dwellings, with a further recessed feature to the rear where the large single window opening had been bricked up many years ago to allow a chimney stack to be built partially over the window area.
Fearn: A very peaceful Fearn station in mid October 2020
Low Marishes: Looking south towards Rillington from the level crossing by the former Low Marishes crossing worker's bungalow, along the grassed trackbed running towards the now removed bridge across the River Derwent. The crossing bungalow sits on the north side of the local road running to Yedingham from the A169 Malton to Pickering road.
Bamber Bridge: A version of the summer Staycation Express is scheduled for some days at the end of the October 2021. The Rail Charter Services HST set, with power cars 43058 and 43059, is seen passing Bamber Bridge on 14 October on a move from Crewe to Neville Hill.
Production Way-University: On Vancouver(BC)'s transit system the Expo Line route is from Waterfront in Downtown to Production Way-University with a branch to King George. Tracks between Production Way-University and Lougheed Town Centre are shared with the Millennium Line, offering interchange possibilities at both stations. Turnback manoeuvres conducted at Production Way University are conducted automatically although overseen from a central control centre. Two Millennium Line trains pass at Production Way-University and a glance at the indicator board gives an idea how slick the shunting operations need to be for terminating Expo Line trains to maintain the intensive service on both lines.
Summerseat: On Home Ground. Ex Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway 'Ironclad' 0-6-0 52044 passes Springside with the 09:50 Heywood to Rawtenstall during the East Lancashire Railway Autumn Steam Gala, where other L&YR survivors are also gathered. 52044 is visiting from the KWVR until January 2023.
Leyland: Eversholts Class 321 EMU, converted to a parcels unit, 321334 is seen passing Leyland during a downpour on an ecs move from Doncaster Royal Mail Terminal to Shields TMD via Camden on 14 October 2022. The unit is branded with Swift Express Freight and carrying a headboard 'The Varamis Express'.
Burnaby: If Vancouver's Skytrain rolling stock needed drivers this is the view they would see but the trains operate without any onboard crew. The Millennium Line is one of three and runs from VCC-Clark to Lafarge Lake-Douglas via Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam. The trains are powered by linear induction motors with the third rail reaction plate clearly visible in the four-foot. Also visible is the walkway which covers the whole network outwith station platform areas and allows evacuation of trains if necessary in the absence of traincrew. As the train threads the Burnaby suburbs a similar member of the Bombardier ART Mark II fleet heads towards VCC-Clark on 14 October 2022.
Summerseat Viaduct: Time Machines, East Lancashire Railway. 21st Century paraphernalia and a BR Mk1 carriage give the game away here as LYR 52044 and 52322 cross Brooksbottom Viaduct with the 13:50 Heywood - Rawtenstall during the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway themed Autumn Steam Gala.
