A view eastwards at Ashton-under-Lyne as a Class 156 approaches with a service from Stalybridge. Both the road bridges have been modified in preparation for electrication but this isn't 2022, this was 2014 and the project to electrify from Manchester to Leeds was later shelved by the SoS for Transport. The result was that a very long extension lead was required to connect the Network Rail feeder station to the east of Stalybridge, to the bit that did go ahead from Victoria to Euxton Jct. Common sense appears to prevail again and electrification for the Victoria to Stalybridge section I believe is underway again at the moment.
