On re-discovering this slide of a couple of derelict SNCF Class 230B 4-6-0 locomotives, taken in 1967, it occurred to me to investigate whether one of them might have co-starred with Burt Lancaster in the 1964 film 'The Train'. But the one in the foreground is 230B728 and I don't have a record of the other number. The film features 230B517, with several other elderly French locomotives, in some superb railway sequences (to my mind eclipsed only by the even more epic sequences in Jean Renoir's 1938 'La Bete Humaine'). I cannot recall the exact location of the photograph but it was somewhere near Chaumont.
