Arndean Cutting

At the bottom of Arndean Cutting showing the retaining walls and largest bridge in a view looking west. This cutting caused the contractor considerable difficulty as it was cut through sand and the lower part of the cutting was lined with stone retaining walls. There was sufficient sand here that a sand and gravel quarry was developed later to the immediate north east of the cutting.
