Saxmundham

A northerly view through Saxmundham station from the Albion street level crossing on 7th November 1976. The truncated branch used to serve the goods shed and associated sidings until April 1966. In the era of the photo, an evening train from Ipswich used to reverse here every Monday to Friday instead of proceeding to Lowestoft. A new down platform was built later just beyond the signal box, which was retained and modernized for RETB signalling. The main building was badly damaged by fire in 2018 and the upper storey was lost in a subsequent refurbishment.
