Micklehurst closed to passengers in 1907, mainly because it served the same population as nearby Mossley, which is still open. The Micklehurst Loop, between Stalybridge and Diggle, remained open for goods traffic until the 1960s. This is the station house, still occupied 117 years after closure. The platforms were at a much higher level and slightly to the north, accessed by stairs from street level. The 'totem' station sign is a nice touch, but of course they were only introduced more than forty years after Micklehurst closed.
