Hunts Cross

Pioneer 507001, now secured for preservation, is seeing out its Merseyrail days in a recently applied blue and grey livery, very similar to that applied to the set when it was new. It achieved fame when Her Majesty The Queen rode in the unit to to Kirkby in October 1978, to inaugurate new Merseyrail electric services, and the following month it formed the first Merseyrail public service working from Southport into Liverpool Central. Here the unit, coupled to 507018, is at Hunts Cross waiting to return to Southport on 8th May 2024.
