Arsenal

LU 1973 stock on Piccadilly Line service to Uxbridge departing from Arsenal, at 14.19 on Saturday, 6th July 2024. This station was opened on 15th December 1906 by the Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway as Gillespie Road, being renamed Arsenal (Highbury Hill) in 1932. (The suffix in parenthesis was later dropped). The original tiled wall signs, along both platforms showing the former name, were covered up by advertising hoardings for many years but are now open to view again. This probably causes confusion to many passengers, especially non-Londoners.
