Bath Spa: The late running 18.00 Torbay Express see image [[43737]] tries to hide behind the 18.13 to London Paddington at Bath Spa on 6 July 2013. Due to a comedy of errors, we spent nearly an hour and a half waiting for a 2-minute journey to Oldfield Park.
Bellingham (North Tyne): The former Border Counties station at Bellingham in July 2013. The station closed to passengers in 1956, with the line back to Reedsmouth finally abandoned in 1963. The station building was subsequently put to use as Council offices. Behind the camera is Bellingham Heritage Centre. The coaches provide additional exhibition space and tea room facilities.
Bath Green Park [2nd]: Possibly as relaxing as an S&D steam train - a hot air balloon spotted above Green Park station in July 2013.
Leipzig: Leipzig Hauptbahnhof looks more like a palace than a railway station. Just about every mode of land transport - car, tram, bus, cycling, walking and main-line railway - are in evidence here on 6th July 2013.
Whitrope Siding: A warm day at Whitrope siding, home of the Waverley Route Heritage Association, during an ICE visit on 6 July 2013. See image [[29713]]
Woodacre Crossing: Two for the price of one. The Carlisle to Chirk logs on Saturday 6th July was headed by two Class 56 locos that were returned to the main line by Colas in 2013. 56105 and 56087 power the long train of timber south in the summer sunshine at Woodacre near Garstang.

Leven [1st]: View west along the course of the Leven branch in July 2013, now the access road to the KFRPS's Methil site.
Bath Spa: Typical. You wait ages for a light engine, then two (66532 and 66563) come along at once. Taken during a long wait (pun intended) for a train to Oldfield Park on 6 July.
Bury Bolton Street: Hymek D7076 with a train at Bury Bolton Street on 6 July 2013 during the ELR diesel gala.

Rawtenstall: 'Just watch it... that's all...' 73210 meets 33109 at Rawtenstall on 6 July.
Woodacre Crossing: Heading north at Woodacre on a bright July afternoon in 2013 is DRS 66302 with an Anglo-Scottish container train. The loco had originally been operated by Fastline but, along with its stable mates, was snapped up by DRS when Fastline ceased trading.
Leipzig: The preserved 2-car Fliegenden Zuege - sister to the Fliegenden Hamburger - rests below Leipzig Hauptbahnhof's magnificent trainshed on 6th July 2013. Built in 1935 at the famous Goerlitz railway works (still operating under Bombardier ownership), these were the fastest trains in the world at the time.
Ramsbottom: Smart looking EE Type 4 no D335 stands at Ramsbottom on 6 July during the East Lancashire Railway diesel gala.

Leipzig: Platform 24 at Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, seen here on 6th July 2013, hosts a former Deutsche Reichsbahn 2-10-0 steam loco (used occasionally on excursions) and an assortment of preserved diesel and electric rolling stock. Built between 1909 and 1915, this was the largest terminus station in Europe when opened, with 26 platforms - only two of which have been lost (to car parking).
Bury Bolton Street: Hymek Type 3 D7076 stands alongside Brush Type 2 D5613 at Bury Bolton Street on 6 July 2013.
Marsden [2nd] (Whitburn Colliery): A Mark 1 carriage outside The Rattler Bar and Restaurant alongside the coast road at Marsden, South Shields, in July 2014. Named after The Marsden Rattler - the line opened by the Whitburn Coal Company from South Shields (Westoe Lane) to Whitburn Colliery in 1879 - which roughly followed the route of the current road. The line closed to passengers in 1953, but continued to transport coal until the pit closed in 1968.
Pont Briwet: The soon-to-be-demolished original Pont Briwet on 6th July with its replacement taking shape alongside. Work on the new bridge caused the 1860s wooden trestle bridge to become unstable in December 2013, following which the line was closed from Harlech to Pwllheli. It is expected to reopen by September 2014. See image [[46693]]
Fushiebridge [2nd]: The former station site at Fushiebridge on 6 July 2014 looking north towards Edinburgh.
Fushiebridge [1st]: Scene at Fushiebridge on 6 July 2014 looking south.
South Shields [NER]: View east from River Drive bridge, South Shields, showing the run round loop from the current terminus, located just beyond the curve, with a head-shunt running below the camera to a stop block. Alongside the loop on the right is an electrified siding used by Metro services.
Pont Briwet: A road-rail vehicle parked on the realigned track alongside the newly widened road leading to the rebuilt Pont Briwet on 6th July 2014. The line from Harlech to Pwllheli is due to reopen by September 2014.

Pont Briwet: Looking north at the Pont Briwet rebuilding works on 6 July 2014, with the line from Harlech to Pwllheli currently scheduled to reopen in September.
Llandecwyn: The realignment of the track for the replacement Pont Briwet has (temporarily) obliterated Llandecwyn halt, seen here on 6 July 2014. As the area is part of Snowdonia National park, care is being taken to build the boundary walls with local materials.
Gore Glen Bridge: The Borders Railway bridge over the A7 at Gore Glen looking south on 6 July 2014.
South Shields [NER]: Modern head-shunt stop blocks, located a short distance beyond the South Shields Metro terminus station, can be seen alongside the River Drive over-bridge near the eastern bank of the River Tyne in a view looking west on 6 July.
Clocherlee Quarry: Opened in 1866 the Dunrod quarry branch left Dunrod and climbed towards the quarries in Sheilhill Glen that supplied the red sandstone used to build houses in Skelmorlie, Wemyss Bay and Inverkip. The picture shows the trackbed in July 2014 curving away from the Dunrod Loop.
South Pier [South Shields]: Long abandoned tracks running along South Shields south pier in 2014. Along the more landward half of the pier the track is laid level to the concrete surface, whereas on the seaward end the track stands some 20mm proud of the stone setts forming the surface up to the pier end lighthouse.
Coventry: The 19.00 Virgin Trains London Euston - Wolverhampton pulls into Coventry on 6 July 2014.
Porthmadog: Repairs to the roof of the Cambrian station at Porthmadog, which blew off in the storms in February 2014, seen looking west on 6 July, with nature attempting to reclaim the trackbed. Gwynedd Council has announced that the line, currently closed from Harlech to Pwllheli because of problems with the rebuilding of the Pont Briwet, should reopen by 1st September.
Gorebridge: A Sunday morning view over a quiet Gorebridge station site on 6 July 2014.
Arniston Catchpoints: Sunday morning view south at Arniston on 6 July, with the trackbed starting to veer south east prior to crossing the A7 on Gore Glen bridge see image [[47898]]. (The houses on the far left stand on the east side of the A7.)
Porthmadog: Looking east from the Stryd Fawr level crossing on the Cambrian Coast line on 6th July, with Porthmadog main line station behind the camera. The Welsh Highland Railway heritage station is on the left. The disused looking main line has been closed since December 2013 because of problems with the rebuilding of the Pont Briwet at Penrhyndeudreath.
Carnforth: Warton Road at Carnforth, looking towards the town centre. The bridge in the foreground is now disused but once carried the direct link between the Barrow and Wennington lines. The second one carries the surviving, sharply curved, Wennington line out of Carnforth station. In between the two, Crag Bank Road off to the right goes under an even lower bridge See image [[50535]] that carries the Carnforth - Barrow trains on the third side of the old triangle.
Bastia [Corsica]: Looking out from the platform at Bastia on the morning of 6 July 2015. The station is located at the northern end of the line and reached via a half-mile tunnel under the old town.

Paxford Level Crossing: Finally I get to see Galatea!
Galatea was photographed heading north out of Moreton in Marsh bound for Worcester. The location is Paxford level crossing on the B4479.
Pyle: The Robeston to Westerleigh Murco oil tanks approach Pyle station with 60044.
Pitlochry: Poster for a railway books sale at Pitlochry station on Sunday the 31st of July.
Pitlochry Station Bookshop website.
Fort William Junction: I happened to take a picture of the morning Jacobite almost exactly 46 years on in the very same location as the query image see image [[54302]], passing milepost 99 and Inverlochy Primary on the approach to Fort William Junction, hauled by Black 5 45407 Lancashire Fusilier. Typical Fort William weather.
Borwick: Hauling its first train in over fifty years Merchant Navy 35018 British India Line undertook a loaded test run from Carnforth on 6th July 2017. The ex-Barry 4-6-2 is seen passing Borwick but was 50 minutes late and only managing around 15mph on the climb. Perhaps it was just a dirty fire because after Hellifield it steadily gained time round the circuit and was nearly three hours early back in Carnforth.
Bamber Bridge: Bulleid Merchant Navy pacific 35018 'British India Line' is seen passing Bamber Bridge on 06 July 2017 whilst working a loaded test run from Carnforth to Carnforth via Hellifield, Blackburn and Preston. After a slow start see image [[59898]] it made good time after Hellifield. The loco's BR number was chalked on the smokebox door but the NR TOPS number (98818) has been applied in the correct font to the right hand cab side. What a pleasant sight to see a Southern pacific returning to the mainline 50 years after the end of steam on Southern Region. Credit to the restoration team at WCRC, Carnforth.
Hest Bank: MN 4-6-2 35018 British India Line on the home straight passing Hest Bank almost three hours early towards the end of its first loaded test run from Carnforth on 6th July 2017. There is still a little cosmetic work to complete but what a transformation of this former Barry loco to be back on the main line.
Visby: This shot shows the 'deck' of the bridge shown in Colin's view from the hotel see image [[60766]]. The top of the stone abutments and the handrails seem to be original but the wooden 'deck' elements are replacements. The route of the railway can be traced in the grass for some distance in both directions. This branch of Gotlands Jarnväg an 891mm gauge railway, was on its way down to the harbour; the location is above the left hand '47' where the line crosses a burn flowing into the bay see http://www.justus2.se/rwy/zigzag/visby/zzvisby.htm
Visby: Both of the ferries used on the Nynäshamn route are in Visby Harbour. MS Visby left and MS Gotland right were built in 2000 and 2002 respectively at Guangzhou, China. It has not been plain-sailing for these sisters, however. This shot shows the unusual stern design which appears to consist of vehicle ramps-it's quite hard to see how this arrangement is watertight. On the left is the high ground, a clifftop, from which the railway had to descend to reach the harbour hence the need for a zigzag see image [[60916]].
Coatbridge Sunnyside: 37025 passing through Coatbridge Sunnyside station with the Network Rail track recording train with 37219 on the rear.(06/07/17)
Sunnyside Junction: Colas 37219 on the Network Rail track recording train approaching Sunnyside Jct from the Whifflet loop. Large Logo 37025 is on the rear (06/07/17)
Glenesk Junction: A ScotRail 158 on the Borders Railway about to pass below the B6392 Melville Road, midway between Shawfair and Eskbank, on 6 July 2017. Glenesk Viaduct, spanning the valley of the North Esk, can be seen in the left background.
Glenesk Junction: View across the old yard that once formed part of Glenesk Colliery, photographed looking north in July 2017. The area is here being used for the storage of pipes and various building materials. Approaching the site of the former Glenesk Junction in the background is the ScotRail 0959 Tweedbank- Edinburgh service.
Forton: Consecutive light engine movements from Carlisle on the WCML on 6th July 2017. Colas 60026 is seen working south at Forton heading for Preston and an appearance at the ELR diesel gala. Behind it, almost on double yellows, is brand new electro diesel 88007 Electra (a name Triang-Hornby enthusiasts of a certain age will remember well) on a return test run to Crewe.
Roma: The station building now at Roma was originally that from Österport Halt in Visby. It had been a hunter's forest shelter for decades before being moved, restored and then re-opened in 2015. Roma village had been a hub for two of Gotland's railways and originally had a much bigger station building. The runround loop extends to a headshunt over a level crossing off to the right of picture. There is a bay platform whose buffer stop is visible to the left of the platform bench. There are plans to rebuild the turntable on its original site and build a new water tower in the grey area on the left centre of the shot.
Glenesk Viaduct: ScotRail 158734 crossing Glenesk Viaduct on 6 July 2017 with the 1024 Edinburgh - Tweedbank.
Forth Bridge: The 1517 Edinburgh to Cowdenbeath and the 1434 Dundee to Edinburgh pass on the northern approach to the Forth Bridge on 6th July 2018.
King's Gate Junction: A Tweedbank service as about the enter the (rather limiting) single track section to Fushiebridge at King's Gate on 6 July 2018. As it happens this is the precise location where the southern end of the Sheriffhall deviation parts company with the former Waverley route through Millerhill, which went off to the right.
Ayr: Bits have started to fall off the neglected Station Hotel in Ayr and, as from a few days ago, the whole area is cordoned off, including the ticket office, which has become a man with a card machine at a more northerly entrance to platform 1. A portable cabin is in place as a temporary office but all the electronics have still to be installed. The neglect has gone on for years with the Council seemingly powerless to act effectively and it could soon be curtains for this famous building. Photographed on 6th July 2018.
Glasgow Queen Street High Level: With the impressively large hole where Consort House once stood in the foreground, the remaining buildings above the Dundas Street entrance are being carefully dismantled with another change to the east entrance to the station being necessary to complete the job safely see image [[64524]]
Shawfair: A Borders Railway service heads south from Shawfair on 6 July. The isolation is obvious. The first houses in the Shawfair development will be ready for occupation in September. This is a slow burn. Meantime the station is within walking distance only of the small village of Newton.
Interiors: A view inside an almost empty 365525 as it glides effortlessly up the incline from Queen Street High Level. The wide aisles are popular with the staff who need to move the refreshment trolleys through theses trains and the seats seem comfortable enough though there are fewer tables than on the diesel 170s which they have replaced.
Glasgow Queen Street High Level: A sunny 365525 at Queen Street platform 4 about to leave for Edinburgh on 6th July 2018. These EMUs did not prove to be as reliable as was hoped during their nine months of service with ScotRail.
Forth Bridge: View of a Forth Bridge cantilever from a boat trip in July 2018.
Forth Bridge: The 1434 Dundee-Edinburgh Class 170 crosses the Forth Bridge on 6th July 2018.
Interiors: The cosy First Class section in one of the Class 365 EMUs recently acquired by ScotRail. First Class is located next to the cab at each end of the 4 coach unit.
Farington Junction: An ECS move from Polmadie to Wembley on 06 July 2019 resulted in Caledonian Sleeper stock appearing in the north of England in daylight hours. 90049 is seen passing Farington Jct on the 5Z92 move south of 10 MkIII sleeper carriages.
Freshford: This bus stop sign is not for transport interchange, but for rail replacement buses as required. Given the narrowness of Station Road, I would not expect a large bus!
Freshford: The new standard for windscreen cleaning on GWR Class 166s, is that you should be able to read the word FRESHFORD reflected in a mid-formation windscreen within an hour of sunset, as shown here on an exclusive test run on 6th July 2019.
Balshaw Lane Junction: 195114 takes the Down Slow line at Balshaw Lane Jct while on a Manchester Airport to Barrow service on 06 July 2019.
Kirkby Stephen East: A quick photo of two saddle tanks at the Stainmore Railway Museum, in the old Kirkby Stephen East station, before the trudge up the hill to Kirkby Stephen West for my 1701hrs Northern service back to Carlisle on 6th July 2019.
Balshaw Lane Junction: Manchester Airport to Barrow in Furness service passes Balshaw Lane Jct on 06 July 2019 operated by new CAF unit 195120.
Balshaw Lane Junction: DRS 66428 on the Grangemouth to Daventry container service on 06 July 2019 as it passes Balshaw Lane Jct.
Dornoch: The former station building at Dornoch is a fine survivor, which lived on after the 1960 closure and did service as a takeaway before becoming a clinic. 6th July 2019.
The Mound: Far North trains still rush by The Mound, and the owner of the old junction station keeps chickens on the site of the branch platform (off to the left). 6th July 2019.
Freshford: This picture was taken only a couple of months after the opening of the extended platforms at Freshford; but nature is already trying to reclaim them - notice the creeper climbing up the fence on the right. The train, in the gorgeous new Great Western green, is a Bristol to Weymouth 158.
Bay Horse: There have been daytime WCML sleeper coach movements on consecutive weekends in June/July 2019 See image [[69383]]. However, whilst the first involved brand new vehicles, the second, seen here in the cutting at Forton, was a rake of ten (redundant?) MkIII coaches hauled from Polmadie to Wembley by Freightliner 90049.
Cardiff Bay: TfW service to Caerphilly awaiting departure from Cardiff Bay on 6th July 2020.
Taff's Well: The easing of lockdown in Wales in July means we are now able to travel further than five miles from our home but most other restrictions are still in place. A 142/150 Pacer/Sprinter combination makes its way along the Taff Vale Railway between Radyr and Taffs Well on 6th July 2020.
Taff's Well: A TfW Pacer Sprinter combination heads up the valley, following the River Taff between Radyr and Taffs Well, on 6th July 2020.
Taff's Well: A Merthyr Tydfil to Penarth service, formed by a TfW Sprinter, approaching Taffs Well on 6th July 2020.
Cardiff Bay: The former Cardiff Bute Road station buildings, and entrance to the platforms of the now named Cardiff Bay station. The buildings were originally the head quarters of the Taff Vale Railway until 1862 and have recently been spruced up. The trains stop just in front of the old station [[53000]].
Taff's Well: A TfW Pacer leads a service from Cardiff Central to Treherbert, passing through Taffs Well, on 6th July 2020.
Bay Horse: Working in tandem, Colas 37219 and 37116 power the NRMT through Forton Cutting near Bay Horse. This was a working from Derby to Carlisle on 6th July 2021.
Moss Side: 156452, heading from Blackpool South to Preston, has just crossed narrow Cartmell Lane on the low bridge and is approaching the final (open) station on the branch at Moss Side. 6th July 2021.
Meadowhead Paper Mill: After bringing fuel tanks from Grangemouth to Prestwick on 6th July 2021, Colas 70813 then ran light engine to the Caledonian Paper Mill branch at Meadowhead, Irvine where it picked up half of the tank wagons parked there. The photograph shows the train on departure at the south end of the branch, stopped at the pedestrian crossing from where the photograph was taken, and about to set down the shunter who then drove off in his van to Barassie where the train would run round and then be shut down. The shunter would then take the driver back to Grangemouth before returning to his home in Kilwinning.
Faslane Junction Yard: Two single track bridges crossing a burn on the former railway built to serve No.1 Military Port during WW2. The line ran from Faslane Junction on the WHR and was double track from the exchange sidings down to the port. After the war the port was used to scrap ships and later steam locomotives. The latter were delivered to the site along the railway as was the scrap metal going in the opposite direction heading to the steelworks in the west of Scotland. Both bridges are fenced off as there is no decking although the sleepers remain in place.
Murrayfield Stadium [Tram]: An Edinburgh Tram has a vinyl hailing return of the Festival, seen at Murrayfield on 6th July 2021.
Faslane Junction Yard: Looking north west along the trackbed of the No.1 Military Port railway a short distance from Faslane Jct Yard (behind the photographer) on 6 July 2021. The pipe on the right is a few feet beneath the West Highland Line.
Drybridge: 156437, forming the 1202 from Kilmarnock to Girvan, (which appeared to be empty) is seen at Shewalton Moss between Drybridge and Barassie on 6th July 2021. The number of trains on this line has been reduced significantly, presumably as a result of Covid cuts.
Shandon: The North Blyth to Fort William alumina tanks passes the site of Shandon station on 6 July 2021 with 66736 in charge again. The station had been an island platform like many others on the West Highland but after closure and demolition, the loop was removed and the track given a straight alignment. The loco is located approximately where the steps down to the underpass used to be located on the platform. On the left the back of the loading bank can just be made out amongst the undergrowth while on the left is the station house.
Perth: A class 158 at Perth on 6th July 2022. The paint colours on the station are the old BR Scottish region brown and cream and so could date from any time since the mid-1960s, given the typeface on the direction signs.
Lancaster: The camber on the Through lines at Lancaster is most noticeable as 90021 and 90034 power south with a Mossend to Daventry train on 6th July 2022. The Malcolm centenary livery of the lead loco contrasts with the much plainer blue of 90034.
Cark: 195116, on a Northern service from Barrow to Manchester Airport, pulls away from Cark on 6th July 2022. Situated on a sharp curve, the platform has been raised and then an outward extension added up to the point of the 'S' sign.
Kings Cross: Passengers with their luggage head for the Kings Cross suburban platform, as a Lumo and an LNER service wait on 6th July 2022.
