The splendid Victorian exterior of the former Low Level Crystal Palace station, dating from 1854, at 12.15 on Saturday, 23rd November 2024, 170 years after its opening. This is rather inconveniently sited, quite a way down Anerley Hill away from the shopping district which is actually Upper Norwood but still called after Paxton's masterpiece which tragically burnt down in November 1936. The quite separate High Level station, closed in 1954 and demolished in 1961, was much more conveniently situated at the top of the hill alongside Crystal Palace Parade, just around the corner from the shops and pubs.
