Sale [Tram]

Metrolink 3015 calls at Sale on the way from Altrincham to Bury, on 2nd October 2024. Like many Altrincham line tram stops, Sale retains most of its infrastructure from main line days. The catenary hangs from original gantries, erected in 1931 for the 1500vDC MSJAR electrification. In 1971 the line was converted to 25kvAC allowing AM4 EMUs to run through from Crewe. After a further twenty years the third iteration arrived in the form of Metrolink tram operation, which uses a 750vDC supply, but still suspended from the gantries that are now approaching their centenary.
