Kirkless Iron Works

Just below Lock 68, on the long Wigan Flight of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, is this stone abutment which carried the half mile Round House branch from the Whelley Loop into Kirkless Iron Works. The last goods train rumbled across in 1930 but the stonework survives on both sides of the canal - see image 88836.
