Newtongrange [1st]
On a dreich 31st January 1966, 9F 92161 is approaching Newtongrange station with the 13.35 Millerhill - Kingmoor freight. The train has started on the 16 mile 1 in 70 climb from Hardengreen to Falahill and already the sound effects are good. This was the last day of booked steam freights over the Waverley Route, passenger working having ended two weeks previously with the closure of Hawick shed, but with Kingmoor remaining open until December 1967 steam still made appearances.
