Irlam

The railway at Irlam is elevated above the main road, and there is a subway with staircases between the two platforms. Two new lifts were being installed in February 2025, with part of the platforms blocked off for construction work. The station building, now a thriving pub, was built to serve the parallel 1873 tracks and so the doors facing these platforms used to open onto the forecourt, while those at the rear used to open onto the westbound platform. A 4-car Sprinter pulls away towards Glazebrook and Warrington with an Oxford Road to Lime Street service.
