Britannia

Since my last visit to the old line at Britannia in 2009 23306 the unofficial trackbed path has been upgraded to a fully accessible and surfaced route. The old tramway bridge, which carried an incline from Lee Colliery on the moor, still spans the route, with the cycle path passing through around fifteen feet above the level of the original line. The main line opened in 1881, but the incline was shown as closed and lifted by the turn of the century so the bridge was not used for the coal traffic for long.
