Penshaw [2nd]

Crime scene: looking SSW from the site of the second Penshaw station, this is the North end of the section where 2 miles of track were stolen, dismantled, and sold for scrap in 2003. The ringleader even set up a company to allow him to hire equipment without arousing suspicion. Ten for initiative; zero for honesty. The gang was rumbled because they were wearing Jarvis jackets; a passing Jarvis employee rang his boss to ask whether they had a contract on the Leamside line; having established that they did not, he tipped off the police.
