Facit
When the L&YR extended the mainly single track Facit branch through to Bacup it laid a double track line which required extensive engineering to lift it over the summit at Britannia. Valley View, between Facit and Shawforth, is a row of houses that were built on the 1:39 embankment. This view looks south towards Facit in April 2025. Where the road turns sharp left there is a crack at the top of the retaining wall, which has been supported by the substantial brick pillar. Whether this repair was during railway days or more recently I cannot say.
