Bandon: View of the former up (Cork) side of the island platform and station buildings at Bandon. The trackbed has been removed, presumably to facilitate the adjacent road construction. The original low-level station was opened in 1849 and was a terminus until the line was completed westwards by 1866. The new high-level station was opened in 1894 and served until closure in 1961 with the low-level station remaining as the goods station. The high-level station pictured now serves as Cork County Council offices.
Cartsburn Tunnel South: The east portals of Greenock's southern Cartsburn Tunnels, photographed on Sunday 11 August 1963 looking towards Wemyss Bay. The second (south) tunnel was constructed when the branch was doubled early in the 20th century but was rendered redundant when it was singled once again following electrification in the 1960s. The plate girder bridge carries the line to Princes Pier, located one and a half miles to the north west.
Haworth: Railbus M79964, which has been used by the KWVR for much longer than it was by BR, drops down towards Haworth with a Saturday morning shoppers' service from Oxenhope to Keighley on 7th January 2012. The line on the left is the entrance to Haworth yard where the depot and workshop is situated. In June 2020 the Worth Valley took delivery of Pacer 144011, which will no doubt also be used on these services.
Ruswarp: View east across High Street, Ruswarp, North Yorkshire, in October 2008. Opened in 1835, Ruswarp is the penultimate stop for trains on the Esk Valley line, standing just over a mile south west of the terminus at Whitby.
Newton Street Tunnel: BR Standard tank 80109 exits the west end of the 2,100 yard Newton Street Tunnel on 25 July 1963 as it approaches Fort Matilda with a Glasgow Central - Gourock train.
Calderbank Junction: The overgrown cutting to the left was the site of Calderbank Junction, the junction between the Clarkston branch of the Ballochney Railway and its branch to the Calderbank Iron Works. When the New Monkland line opened east to Bathgate trains travelled by the line seen here before the new alignment through Airdrie station was opened. Colliertree Siding was on the right and behind the camera was the division between the Clarkston branch and the connection to the New Monkland line. Some landscaping and house building has taken place since this 1997 photograph.
Cawton Gate Crossing: View looking east along a lengthy section of the extant trackbed, from the former Malton line, running between Hovingham Spa station and Cawton Gates crossing keepers cottages. The trackbed is a permissive path over Hovingham Estates land. Cawton Gates crossing was around 500m east of the point where the Pickering line diverged north after both ran in parallel from Gilling East station. To rear of view a further, near 100m, section of the trackbed is being dug out to convert to, and join up two isolated sections of, arable land
North Berwick: A Class 305 stands at North Berwick in July 1998.
East Finchley: The Archer statue pointing towards central London at East Finchley on 1st April 2021. This station was originally opened by the GNR in 1867 and was rebuilt for the Northern Line in 1939. Trains were extended from here north to High Barnet on 1st April 1940 but apart from a further short section from Finchley Central to Mill Hill East that opened on 18th May 1941, the rest of the Northern Line extensions between Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace, Mill Hill East and Edgware and on a brand new line to Bushey Heath were cancelled after 1945. In the fields north of Edgware parts of a never-used viaduct, on which would have stood the proposed Brockley Hill station, survive as a memorial to the railway that never was.
Dalwhinnie: An aerial view of Dalwhinnie looking to the station over the level crossing showing the track damaged in the derailment repaired.
Kirkham and Wesham: Northern DMU 150149 is seen leaving Kirkham and Wesham on 27 October 2017 with a service to Blackpool North. On the left the new sleepers have been positioned for the new up line which will serve the third platform then being constructed during the electrification between Preston and Blackpool North.
