Aldgate: LU C stock (now withdrawn) on a clockwise Circle Line service departing from the atmospheric Aldgate station, opened in 1876, on 10th January 2013. This was the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the World's First Underground line, the Metropolitan Railway from Bishops Road, Paddington to Farringdon Street (renamed Farringdon & High Holborn in 1922 and further renamed to simply Farringdon in 1936).

Commonhead: The platform of Commonhead station was on the right, sidings and signal box on the left. The view looks west down the Ballochney Incline towards Kipps. Behind the camera the Airdrie Hallcraig branch diverged from the main line of the Ballochney Railway. A road bridge once crossed the line here and there has been much landscaping, the trackbed is now a footpath.

Roxburgh Viaduct: View from the footpath alongside the River Teviot at Roxburgh on a summer afternoon in 2013 looking south towards the viaduct. The impressive structure, which once carried the line across the river between Kelso and Roxburgh, finally closed to all rail traffic in 1968. Note the low level footbridge, supported on the viaducts extended cutwaters.

Longriggend: Looking west from the former Longriggend station in 1997. A bridge once crossed the line and station platform. Off to the right is the embankment of the private mineral railway serving the Longriggend colliery and many other pits over an extensive area. This system had a connection to the Slamannan Railway at Moss Lye Siding, in the distant left of this view.

Abbeyhill Junction: An LNER Azuma from the south slips from the Down line to the Calton North Tunnel line on the approach to Waverley on 1 April 2021. As you can probably see there were once two double tracks here, one through each tunnel.
