West Sleekburn Junction: UK Railtours' excursion from King's Cross diverging from the Ashington line onto the North Blyth branch, which to the best of my knowledge has never had a passenger service, on 7th April 2018. This had travelled via the ECML to Morpeth and thence via the line through Choppington to Bedlington and on to Newsham. It then reversed to retrace its steps through Bebside and Bedlington to visit North Blyth but, alas, did not go to Ashington. The train returned direct from North Blyth to Newcastle back through Bedlington and Newsham and on through Seaton Delavel. Funding for reopening the Ashington line with stations at Northumberland Park (an interchange with the Tyne & Wear Metro), Seaton Delavel, Newsham, Bebside (to be called Blyth Bebside), Bedlington and Ashington, was given in January 2021. However, the Morpeth to Bedlington line is not included in the reopening scheme but maybe considered at a later date.

St Leonards: Part of Edinburghs former St Leonards terminus as it was on a wet New Years Day in 2008. Housing developments had by this time claimed much of the old Edinburgh & Dalkeith site dating from the 1830s, although the large goods shed on the right had managed to survive. The building had in fact been sympathetically refurbished and at this time housed a food preparation service together with a cafe named The Engine Shed. View is north west towards the gate pillars that stood at the entrance to the yard from St Leonards Lane.

Donibristle Platform: Scotrail 43143 and 43164 pass Donibristle with an Inverness - Haymarket movement on 9 March 2021. (I dare say any passenger could be put in the guard's compartment...)

Little Hulton: Little Hulton station closed in 1954, along with the ex-LNWR line from Bolton Great Moor St, although goods trains passed through for a further six years. The platforms and buildings were removed and the stone work, seen in this April 2021 view towards Bolton from the A6 overbridge, was put in during the conversion of the trackbed to a greenway. A new Little Hulton station has been proposed, but if built will be on the nearby L&YR line between Walkden and Atherton.

Oubeck Loops: A partially successful attempt to get an OS Trig Point into a train picture. A Manchester Airport to Edinburgh service runs through the cutting to the north of Oubeck Loops, as seen from Burrow Heights (59m) on 17th April 2021. The campus of Lancaster University forms the back drop.

Bonnington (Rosebank) Goods: Nothing remains of the Caledonian's Bonnington (Rosebank) Goods station. This is the boundary wall to the west of the site, the goods yard was off to the right in this view which looks north west to Newhaven. This is roughly the location the yard's headshunt left the Leith New Lines.

Uxbridge: A 1994 view of the booking hall of Charles Holden's 1938 Uxbridge station, taken from behind the buffers. The simple train indicator (which is double-sided) is still in place. The clock however has been replaced by an older-style one with serifed roman numerals which to my eye is unsympathetic to the rest of the station.

Crouch End: View from the east end of the remains of Crouch End station, looking towards Finsbury Park, on 1st April 2021. The footbridge in the background was once used by peak hour commuters to save them a longer walk home from the main entrance (now demolished) on Crouch End Hill bridge at the opposite end of the station. It has been retained to give pedestrians on the Parkland Walk footpath, on the line's trackbed, access to the surrounding streets. Had it not been for World War Two, this part of the ex-GNR's Northern Heights lines would now be a branch of the London Underground Northern Line. Over £1 million was spent on the line before 1939 but it was never completed after 1945. Steam trains continued to run until 1954.

Levenmouth: Looking east from the Iron Brig towards Methil East Junction, with track cleared of vegetation in March 2021. Methil Power Station, which once dominated the horizon, has been demolished.

Dunmanway: View of the former Dunmanway station building, now a vet clinic, on the up (Cork) platform at Dunmanway. The platform ramp can be made out and the platform canopy now encloses a waiting area. The trackbed is completely overgrown and the down platform, if it survives, is not visible. The first station at Dunmanway was a terminus before the line was extended westwards and lasted from 1866 to 1877. The through station pictured opened in 1877 and survived until closure in 1961.

Girvan: The 13.59 to Stranraer departing Girvan on 6th April 2021. No crossing movement was required, hence the use of the main platform.
